After nearly four weeks in Queen Alexandra Hospital, I have been sent home, complete with wheelchair, Zimmer Frame and crutches! These are for a few weeks only, until I am walking normally!

I am well on the way to a total and complete recovery, with no residual problems at all! I am so excited I can hardly contain my excitement!

I am so grateful to the Lord for sparing my life, and protecting me! According to both the police and the paramedics most cyclists would have been killed outright in such an accident.

Birgit Whelan (of Revelation TV) sent Richard a special verse: Psalm 118:17 “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord”. I prayed this verse constantly, and God has certainly answered this prayer! Thank you, God! Thank you, Birgit, too!

On Friday 24th June 2011 I was cycling on a B road, and a car drove into the back of my bicycle, as you can see from the picture!

My helmet saved my life, and I will be offering my free services to the manufacturers to promote the wearing of helmets by all cyclists (many cyclists do not wear helmets, as you can see on the roads every day!)

My heart rhythm went into Ventricular Fibrillation in the ambulance. I used to be a Registrar Anaesthetists, and very few patients survive this.

The team at Casualty had great difficulty stabilising me, with my very low blood pressure, very low pulse, loss of blood, and a very low body temperature. My daughter Emma, a Senior Midwife, was informed that the prognosis was very uncertain. As a Anaesthetist, I have personally treated a large number of patients in this condition, and hard facts are that the vast majority die.

I was in Critical Care for 48 hours. Whilst in hospital, I received a total of 4 units of blood, and a lot of other intravenous fluids as well.

I sustained a fractured Right Tibia and Fibula, Fractured Lumbar and Sacral Spine, Dislocated finger, and multiple fractured ribs. Miraculously, there is no neurological problem whatever, and I have my full mental faculties (although many would comment that my mental faculties were not too brilliant before the accident!)

I have also survived a Deep Vein Thrombosis in my right calf, which is always potentially fatal, since a clot often travels to the heart and kills the patient- this is one of the commonest causes of death in hospital. I am now on full therapeutic Heparin injections for 12 weeks.

I also survived consolidation and infection of my right lung, with temperatures of 39C and uncontrollable shivering, which required intravenous antibiotics for 10 days.

Basically I have been spared death on a number of occasions, and am so grateful to the Lord to be alive!

I would very much like to thank the management, presenters, staff and viewers of Revelation TV “Church Without Walls”, as well as whole churches in many countries, for the hundreds of cards, letters, and e-mails from all over the world.

I have been frankly amazed at the number of cards, letters, and e-mails received, and cannot express adequately how grateful I am for all the well wishes, and the prayers of so many lovely people over a very difficult time for our very close family.

Roger and Sue French of Living Word Church, Portsmouth, could not have been more kind and helpful, as well as all of the members of his wonderful church. In addition, the doctors and nurses at Queen Alexandra Hospital were all outstanding.

In summary, I have a lot more friends than I thought I had! I would like to extend my warmest wishes to everyone, family, friends, and Christians from many countries.

In addition I have received identical visions over many nights whilst in hospital about how we all enter Eternity when we die. I am still trying to understand this vision, and am getting help from experts in Mathematics and Physics in Derek Walker’s church! I hope to make a short TV programme about it when I have finally understood it!

Lesley Conder, Gordon Pettie, and Doug Harris have very kindly invited me to attend the next “Building The Foundation” on Revelation TV on 9th August 2011. I am very much looking forward to attending! Someone from my church will gladly bring me.

I am whizzing all over the place in my wheelchair, and becoming a general menace to everyone! Val says I am like a puppy, and should behave myself, and maybe wear a crash helmet, unless I slow down a bit!

With special love and thanks to everyone,

Richard
